NEW BRIEFING: Violence Against Older People in Wales

Report cover in blue with the text ‘Violence Against Older People in Wales 2023/24’

Every year, the Wales Violence Prevention Unit produce a briefing on violence against older people, bringing together multi-agency data to better understand how violence is impacting older people in Wales.

This report is published for professionals as part of the Unit’s remit to support partners in Wales to deliver an evidence-based public health approach to violence prevention.

This most recent briefing includes data from January 2019 to June 2024. It sheds light on ambulance call-outs, violence against the person offences, domestic abuse and sexual violence offences, hospital admissions, emergency department attendances, Welsh Women’s Aid services and Live Fear Free calls.

As with the previous two years, the data in this briefing indicates a concerning increase in levels of violence against older people, and this was seen across all datasets.

This report will be made available on the Wales Violence Prevention Portal, for all professionals working in violence prevention.
